MS makes 'pre-emptive strike' announcements

updated 12:40 pm EDT, Mon July 15, 2002

Microsoft today launched the first of "several pre-emptive strikes against Apple Computer's Macworld trade show by making announcements about new technologies far ahead of their delivery to market," according to c|net. Microsoft today announced details about the next version of its digital media technology, code-named Corona, which will be known as Windows Media 9 Series and is expected to make other digital media and consumer announcements.

    h*** yes they do

They have this continuing fear that if they don't completely dominate every aspect of computing then their going to miss something and become obsolete. They were close to missing the boat on the internet. You can bet that M$ is keeping their eye on Apple and they are worried about losing customers to Apple due to the "digital hub", which M$ and intel have already picked up on.

    YES!!

10.2 adds features that has some people loosing sleep! hAHAHA, take that. This is great. I'm so glad to see some balls grow on Apple. This is awesome. We have a few Office alternatives and that is the only hold M$ has anymore. OW and Cimera will make their browser obsolete, mail.app should be good enough to replace Entourage and we have Office alternatives too.

HAHAA!! Yes, it's about time we piss them off.

    stealing thunder

Did anyone else who read the article find it odd that they accused MS of "stealing Apple's thunder" while in the same paragraph rattling off 17" iMac & early Jaguar releases? What's going to hurt a keynote more: a boring announcement of another c*** WiMP version, or early info on keynote info/product announcements?

    bill

perhaps bill should buy up all the stock and gain control of the company, he has the $$$ to do so. If he has worries about monopolist stuff, maybe he can form a new investor group or something, maybe Anderson can give him some ideas, or Enron or Worldcom...

    Balls

I wonder what is going on at Apple, they have gotten very aggressive, DAM THE TORPEDOS, full speed ahead. Gosh, I really hope Billy won't get too sick due to lack of sleep, I can certainly understand how the release and accelerated improvement of a really OS could cause one to loss sleep.

    This along with their

....claim that Apple isn't Advertising Microsoft's Products enough. That is funny, I thought Office was a Microsoft Product, not an Apple Product. What's wrong MS, not enough money to promote your own products? Oh...and the thought that 750,000 were going to fork out $500 for Office this Year? HA

    fun article

there were blows left and right. I haven't read anything this exciting in a long time. Can't wait to see what happens in the next few months after Jaguar comes out.

    The sad fact is...

Apple needs Office & Explorer to be considered seriously in business. I couldn't do my job on my Mac as easily without them.

Fortunately, if M$ pulls support then there would be no hope of weazeling out of anti-trust cases.

The real sad fact is that so many people believe they need to use MS Office in the business world. There are alternatives. Sometimes I think people get themselves so concerned with the software they are using and they end up losing sight of the actual tasks they are trying to perform.
