PC case maker mimics G4 tower

A custom PC enclosure maker has released what it describes as a "clone" of Apple's Power Mac G4 'QuickSilver' case design. Despite many noticeable differences, the "McPC" sports graphite/gray plastics, similar to Apple's color choices for recent G4 towers. The case also borrows from the Power Mac design, with the implementation of a handle, for easy transportation, and a flip-down CD/DVD drive bay door for improved aesthetics. The McPC is not immediately available, but pricing from manufacturer Directron is forthcoming.

    wow

What a surprise, it looks absolutely awful! Get gouged with Apple-case style pricing without any of the Apple case looks! What a deal!

    Meh.

They should have copied the Mac case EXACTLY! Only then would I gut my PC (necessary evil... VERY evil) to make it match my Apple.

    It's ugly.

It's not a clone of the G4 unless the motherboard is on a tray that folds down for easy access. Doesn't look like it does that to me.

Good luck finding drives with bezels that match, if you buy the blue or gray models of this case.

If the actual product name is "McPC," how long do those fools think the McDonald's Corporation will wait before releasing the hounds (read: lawyers) for trademark dilution? And before you say it's not dilution because McDonald's Corp's business is not related to computers-- I read that even Apple had to negotiate with them 20 years ago, to be able to use "Macintosh" as a product name-- so apparently they are overzealous about protecting their brand.

    Looks just like Apple's!

You know, just like it except that it's ugly and has no real resemblance to Apple's style.

    sad... but true

Sad thing is, for most of those PC users that looked with envy at the Mac's beautiful aesthetics, this case will do.

In exactly the same way that Windows suffices.

    Sad.

    But true.

    I like it

I'm a hardcore Mac user and I like it. The design is much the same as standard PC's but the colouring etc is really nice. I'ld use on in a second. Far better than those lame attampts that were beige boexes with a coloured front panel.

    and who is this for?

pc cases are for people who build their own hardware.

these people are not interested in mac aesthetics.

especially if it's just a normal pc case with a shiny coat.

    Mac-like ...

In the sense that Windows itself is "Mac like."

I think this case could be used as a litmus test at design college. Show an applicant the G4 case, show them this butt-ugly piece of s***, and if they pick the latter show them the door.

Next up: America's crying need for better user-interface designers!

    Rather belated copy cat

Figures it would take until Apple is just about ready to dump its previous (once futuristic) design in favor of its next fashion-boggler before some PCeer Mac-wannabee lookalike comes out with imitation. LOLOL. Give it a rest. Y'all hopeless.
