Reader: German domain offered back to Apple
updated 01:40 pm EDT, Mon July 8, 2002
MacNN reader Dominik Schmid provided an update on the apple.de domain of which Apple apparently lost control over the weekend: "just wanted to let you know that the hijackers of the apple.de domain name state on apple.de that the domain has been - possibly accidently - deleted by apple germany. they also say that they don't know more about it and that they have informed apple germany about this and offered a quick retransfer. this information is a translation of the text you see now on apple.de."

Greatest scam ever!!
these guys aren't stupid. They will get probably 100K hits to that page, with the popup, make their money quickly, give the domain back to apple to avoid any legal battles and boom thats it.
This is great hahah. And to top that off all the mac sites will link to it and all the curious mac users will click it, i bet they'll hit 1 million impressions...heck I wouldn't be suprised if cnet picked up this story!
