FileMaker has announced FileMaker Pro 6, an update to its databae application that brings new XML import/export functions and new templates and tools.
Version 6 also offers features such as import of images from a folder and direct digital image capture (and meta or EXIF image-data). Other features include a format painter for easily duplicating object information, customizable dialogs, imrpoved scripting, improved layout themes, the ability to sort the database from a field's context menu, global find/replace functions, the ability to constrain/extend found sets, and improved Web companion security.
FileMaker 6 also offers better import functions for storing file information such as the filename, the file path, and a smaller thumbnail image of picture and QuickTime files. OS X-specific improvements include support for OS X services, long file names, import/export of ODBC-based data and Execute SQL script.
The $300 application is available as a $150 upgrade. The Unlimited version is $1000 ($500 upgrade). Both are available now. FileMaker Developer 6, which includes script debugger, a database design report and developer tool, is expected to ship in September for $500 with a $100 rebate for previous owners, according to this Web report.

But where is...
First, version spread - going from a single Server and End-User app to Server, End-User, Developer, and Unlimited. Now, 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 within a couple of years. Sounds like FMI has truly embraced the 'upgrade revenue stream' concept.
But where is the fix for the Server 5.5 Scheduler bug? Where is the fix for the copy/paste bug for Developer 5.5? For me, these bug fixes are a lot more important than a bunch of new templates.
