    rebates!

When is Apple going to get it? Rebates isn't getting it! People want to see the price taken off at checkout!

    Agreed

I afree with the person above. Rebates aren't going to do it for everyone. Discount the price and we'll buy. Buy buy buy!

    Rebates vs Price Drops

By doing a rebate versus a price drop, it gives Apple "implied leverage" in several areas - they don't have to pay out the "effect" of the price drop for at least 8-10 weeks into the future, i.e., well after this quarter's end (and some people may never send in for the rebate) and it allows them flexibility in setting the next round of suggested prices...they hopefully can eliminate inventory before the new models come out and maintain control over where their price points will be.

    that's the problem

I think rebates are great and it does allow Apple to maintain their price points. But my problem with rebates is that it takes way too long to receive. I would love to know how come it takes 8-10 weeks. My house was half built in that time period.

    the reason...

why don't they just take off the $100 at checkout? Well, I can tell you why. It's because only a certain percentage of people return the rebate forms properly and on time. They make just enough stipulations on the rebates like having to cut out cardboard pieces on the box of the product etc to make people just not bother sending it in. That makes Apple $100 richer every time someone forgets or does it wrong. If I remember right, about 30% of the rebates actually go out. I read an article the other day that said the only time rebates really hurt a company was when Intuit/Quicken did a rebate that ended up costing them dearly because the people who buy quicken tend to be tight with money and send in the rebate forms religiously!!

    Rebate..come on

i'll tell ya, i bought the new 500dp, because of the rebate, who care sif it's at the checkout or the mail 2 weeks later, and as to the above claims that people won't bother..you must be rich to be thinking like that..$300, $500, or even $100. is some decent money that i'd rather have in my pocket. And if you can't afoord one at the register because it's 300-500 more than what you have, maybe you can't afford the range in the first place. buy an Imac and quite complaining..i think they're doing good...and who cares what their quarter results are..unless your a shareholder..are you? I am. am i upset, no, i know apple will be around along time making innovative products and keeping everyone else in the dust. so get a life.
