Smith Micro today announced the first two products in its WebDNA eBusiness Development Suite v4.5: WebDNA Commerce Edition v4.5 and WebDNA Developer Edition v4.5 both feature several new features, including UPS OnLine Tools, a new WebDNAMonitor program, and SSL (Secure Socket Layer) support for TCP connections.

  • WebDNA Commerce Edition allows users to quickly design, test, implement, and manage eCommerce websites without the knowlege of ASP or Java. It supports the development of an unlimited number of eCommerce sites, and includes back office order management and payment authorization capabilities as well as a "wizard" for easy storefront creation.

  • WebDNA Developer Edition offers all the functionality of the Commerce Edition, but is limited to three concurrent page requests, Developer Edition enables developers to build, alter, and test pages and functions and use any internal database for dynamic data insertion as well as create banner ads, online quizzes, and other tracking features.

Both also include WebDNA Monitor, a new module for monitoring the WebDNA continuously and restarting the engine if necessary. Both products also support 4D WebSTAR Server Suite and Webten for serving Web pages, database information, and files via a single application.

Other enhancements include a new 'commit' option for the CloseDatabase tag, a new preference that allows filtering of null characters, and several new payment processor options for the Edition's WebMerchant payment technology including 'Authorize Net-Direct Connect Method' and 'PayFlowPro - Verisign'.

Classic versions of WebDNA Commerce Edition ($2000) and WebDNA Developer Edition ($200) are due soon; however, both are available for OS X. The two remaining products in the suite, WebDNA Intranet Edition (third quarter) and WebDNA Enterprise Edition (fourth quarter), will be available later this year.
