Macromedia has once again opted out of Macworld Expo New York: "Macromedia is totally committed to the Mac community and has brought out a great new Macromedia MX family of tools, including Macromedia Flash MX, Dreamweaver MX and Fireworks MX, which are all natively compatible with Mac OS X, [but Macromedia] has found that seminars and other methods of communicating with our customers are more effective than trade shows." The Newsfactor report also notes that Adobe is currently missing the from the list of show exhibitors.

    Not a big deal, really

Everyone knows who they are. Since many of their major apps are already running OS X natively there shouldn't be much complaint about their absence anyway.

    The real reason...

...Macromedia doesn't want to answer the question "Where is Director for OS X?" fifty thousand times.

    re: real reason

Well that would be the reason if there was 50,000 director users anymore

    NY Show is very expensive

The MacWord New York show is very expensive with the required Union labor to do all the setup, travel and accomodations I don't blame em for trying to save some cash. Yes everyone knows who they are, but how are you going to SEE their apps working on OS X and ask questions without a show on the cheap?

We get ads for seminars and whatnot all the time, way expensive to go to. These companies know what they are doing - getting paid to show off their apps instead of forking out tons of cash and getting nothing in return.

    re: real reason

There are 305,494,703 installed Shockwave players as of June 20, 2002. Director content has the support of Intel, Discreet, and Real to name a few. Major corporations rely on it to develop CD based content. Are there 50,000 developers? I don't know, but there would be a huge void if Director went away. (Especially as a Director developer myself.)

Where is Director 9/MX has become my new mantra (replacing Where is Photoshop 7)!

    What do they mean "again

"Macromedia has once again opted out of Macworld Expo New York"

Macromedia was there in 2001 and 2000. When were they missing before?
