Yamaha yesterday announced its CRW-F1, "the first" CD recorder to offer 24x ReWritable capabilities. The mechanism offers full Mt. Rainer support, which "adds true drag-and-drop CD rewriting and on-the-fly formatting to CD-RW creation in PC, Mac, and Linux operating systems [including OS X]...There is no need to install separate CD-mastering software or a hardware driver." It also includes a CD-RW Audio Track Edit system, which allows the user to easily add and delete audio tracks from CD-RW media, without erasing the entire disc.

mt. rainier/ cd graphics
so, is mt. rainier a hardware implementation, or something that needs specific addressing by the OS, and if so, is that already built into OS X? i was just kinda confused...so what yamaha is saying is that i can just stick this CD-RW in my mac, and if i'm running X, then i should be able to write to it using the mt. rainier format right off the bat, and i won't have to install any drivers or any other software?
also, the idea of laser etching graphics and titles on the CD is a damn cool idea!!! but if you read the press release on the link, it says you can use a special version of Nero that yamaha is bundling with the drives to use this feature...no mention of any program to use this feature on the mac side.
