Nvidia gives more details on 3fdx acquisition

updated 03:35 pm EST, Mon December 18, 2000

During a conference call this morning conducted by Nvidia Corporation executives, the company indicated that they plan to offer positions to one hundred former employees of 3dfx Interactive (approximately 25% of the company's workforce) with the vast majority being hardware engineers described by Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang as "world-class" and "the best of the best". The company also indicated that 3dfx Interactive was developing two product lines beyond the Rampage architecture expected for release in Q1 2001, and Nvidia will begin the process of looking over those technologies as early as next week to decide which features to incorporate into future Nvidia technologies. The $112 million agreement for the acquisition of assets from 3dfx Interactive, which is pending shareholder approval, includes $70 million cash and 1 million shares of Nvidia common stock.

    3dfx shares?

Does any one know what's going to happen to my now-worthless TDFX shares? So far I haven't heard any mention ...

Like you said... sell out while you can still get anything for them.

    uh...

IANAL, but there's no reason I see that they would convert to Nvidia shares. 3dfx is still a seperate company, because Nvidia only bought their technology, not the business itslef. After the purchase goes through, 3dfx is going to dissolve.

    Mac drivers?!?

When are we going to hear about future Mac driver updates for 3dfx products? Are all of us Voodoo5 owners just stranded? Please, someone try to get a comment from nVidia on this! (The least they could do is open source the Mac Voodoo drivers, so we can have the remains and work on improving them ourselves.)
