updated 01:40 pm EDT, Tue June 11, 2002
Mike Teener, the founder of the FireWire ("IEEE 1394"), will present a keynote address at this year's 1394 Developers' Conference, to be held June 25-27 at the Microsoft campus in Redmond. Teener is currently Plumbing Architect at Apple--a title that he also held from 1988 until 1996.
Teener was CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of Zayante, a company he co-founded in 1996; Zayante was acquired by Apple in 2002. Teener was chief architect of Apple's FireWire technology, and a leading contributor to the technology now consolidated under the 1394 standards.
Last month he was named chairman of the 1394 Trade Association's newly formed Network Work Group. He joins Mitsubishi's Bob Perry, Microsoft's Michael Tuotonghi, and Instat analyst Brian O'Rourke as part of the team of 2002 DevCon keynoters. Sponsors this year include Microsoft and Apple Computer.

Plumbing Architect?
Does anyone know the story behind this job title? Sounds cool to me. Something to do with working on widening pipes?
