Reader: ComputerTown closes (again)
updated 08:35 am EDT, Mon June 10, 2002
David Knowles emailed us with a note about ComputerTown's closure, after the company was relaunched last year under new management.
It seems that Computer Town in Salem, NH has closed again. They re-opened last July after re-organizing. It seems that it has failed. The message on their website www.computertown.com reads:
To Whom it may Concern:
Due to circumstances beyond our control, ComputerTown has reluctantly closed
its doors for the foreseeable future. This comes after a failed attempt to
stay in business including working through with several issues with our most
valuable vendor partners, including Apple Computer. Our Salem, NH facilities
have been permanently shut down effective May 31st.
VENDORS and CUSTOMERS: Please e-mail any inquiries, including orders,
service, credits, or payment status to info@computertown.com (or click
HERE) - you will be contacted by a representative for the company. Please be
patient as it may take a few days for a response to your inquiry.
If we don't "see" you again, we appreciate your patronage and partnership
during the past 23 years; especially since our re-opening last July.
Sincerely,
the ComputerTown Team
They were running a special a couple of months ago for the new iMacs. They needed to be pre-ordered and delivered in six weeks. The last I heard they hadn't gotten any. My order was cancelled. Hopefully I will get my refund soon. I wonder if anybody actually got the iMac. In my cancellation letter, they said they were moving their facilities. That too, failed.
