Nemesys Software has released a new, free tool for OS X, CountChar 1.0, an application that returns the number of characters in a string: "You can type or paste the string in a text field in the application, but the functionality is also available through the OS X services, so that you simply have to select a range of characters in an application supporting OS X services."
