Nikon earlier this week introduced three new Coolpix cameras, including the Coolpix 5700 (5MP, 8x optical zoom), Coolpix 4500 (4MP, 4x) and Coolpix 2000 (2.0MP, 3x) as well as a new portable light for macro shooting.

  • The Coolpix 5700 features a 5-Megapixel CCD and 8x Optical Zoom-Nikkor ED Lens as well an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF), an Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass for superior image quality and the ability to capture in a RAW data recording mode. It can also record up to one minute of full-motion video with sound.

  • The Coolpix 4500 offers a 4.0 effective megapixel CCD and a 4x Optical Zoom-Nikkor lens in a swivel lens body, with a combination of full manual control options as well as features for attaching up to 20 seconds of recorded notes to photos, and for capturing 35 seconds of video movies with sound.

  • The Coolpix 2000 is an entry-level 2.0 megapixel digital camera with a 3x Optical Zoom-Nikkor lens, a 1.5" LCD. It features an automatic
    shooting mode and five programmed Scene modes.

All three cameras ship with ArcSoft software, including PhotoStudio, an image manipulation packagethat allows users to edit, retouch or apply special effects to photos; VideoImpression which lets users edit and share QuickTime movies;
and Panorama Maker, which can stitch together a number of images as well as NikonView 5, Nikon's image browser software for organizing/printing images, creating a slideshow and sharing images via email, the Web or PDAs

Nikon also introduced the Cool-Light SL-1 macro ring light for "easy macro shooting without the need for special lighting equipment." The portable (2.8 oz) light provides full-surround illumination to images from a shooting distance as close as 2cm with the Coolpix 4500 and Coolpix 900 series of cameras. It is powered with two 3V CR2-type lithium batteries to provide approximately 6 hours of continuous lighting, and approximately 500 lux luminance and can be optionally powered by most Coolpix AC adapters. The Cool-Light SL-1 attaches directly to the Coolpix 950, 990, 995 and Coolpix 4500 digital cameras, and requires a standard lens adapter ring is necessary for use with the Coolpix 5000, 885, 880 and 775 digital cameras.

The cameras as well as the portable light are expected to ship in July.

    early adoption...

    you will always pay the price when you adopt early.

    that's a bummer... you should ebay your 5000 before the 5700 comes out and MAKE a profit from all the suckers that get into bidding wars on ebay. hehe

    Uh...

    it's an upgrade from 995. It can't be very different from that of 995... right? Anyway, I was ready to get a S40 so I seriously doubt that it is far off my reach.
