Harry Zink notes that new Power Mac G4s ship with an updated Mac OS ROM: "New shipping G4s include a couple of new features in their running OS. Specifically, they sport ROM v5.51, which is a step up from prior ROM 4.91 (or so)."

    You're on someting

The updated 9.0.4 OS with ROM 5.5.1 has been shipping for over 6 weeks now, and it has nothing to do with solid window dragging. There MUST be another explanation. Either you're on somethings or you have a utility loaded that does this.

    Hmm…

Mac OS 9.1 has v6.1 and there's no solid window dragging.

Are you sure you haven't installed Power Windows?

    Power WIndows or KS?

Agreed - 5.5.1 has been out a long time now. Look for PW or KS as possible reaons for solid windows.

    hello?

maybe you should do a little research over there at macnn before you toss up some random reader email. The OS obviously does not support solid window dragging by itself, even with a new ROM. If I email you and say that my new G4 I bought today has a 1.3Ghz CPU and 800Mb firewire, will you publish it?

    try again

I've got Mac OS ROM 5.5.1--no solid window drags here. Idle speculation here, but I got my computer the same day the Radeon came out--I wonder if that could be what prompted the ROM file upgrade.

    Thread??

It was reported on the News page, albeit as a quote from the user. I agree with 'hello'... wakee wakee MacNN. Do at least a modicum of background checking before posting information.

    Harry Zink

Yeah. This Harry Zink guy is an idiot. I've read postings from him before on Macintouch. He is completely clueless and loves spreading BS rumors. He resides in the LA area and posseses absolutely zero technical knowledge. The Mac OS ROM and/or Boot ROM firmware has nothing to do with how the Finder draws it's friggin windows. This guy should be shot for posting c*** like this to major Mac news sites.
