Media Four releases XPlay Beta 1

updated 05:10 pm EDT, Sat May 25, 2002

Media Four has posted a beta of its iPod music transfer software for Windows: XPlay Beta 1, which it says is "prettier, slicker, faster, more reliable, and more powerful than the last release. All of the major features are in place, and so is much of the polish." It provides both read and write access to your iPod hard drive for documents and data files, plus the ability to organize your music either from the Explorer-based XPlay interface, or from Windows Media Player.

    Good!

I want Apple to offer full Windows compatibility for iPod. Say what you will, but there aren't that many people who will switch platforms for an MP3 player. This can only help Apple's financials.

This isn't news. I could care less about the tools people make to use their Mac-only iPods on Windows. It'll never be as nice as iTunes. You want ease of use with your iPod? Get a Mac.

Well said. Sometimes I wish these elitist Mac users would, well, go get a life.

You obviously don't have any Apple stock. Being able to sell iPods to the massive PC market can only help Apple's bottom line, something I think most Mac users with a couple of brain cells to rub together would be quite excited about.

    Mac home, PC work

If I had the money to spend on an iPod (HAH, I wish!) it would be handy to be able to move stuff back and forth between a Mac at home and a PC at work. Now if I could only sell that concept to the missus...

I actually *know* people that have bought a mac only because they wanted the iPod.
