Forbes.com: new Apple digital device at Expo?

updated 12:15 pm EDT, Tue May 21, 2002

Forbes.com, discussing recent product upgrades by Apple, speculates on the possibility of a new digital device announcement at Macworld Expo in July: "Given Apple's early lead in wireless networking using the Wi-Fi standard, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to see Apple creating what is essentially a touch-sensitive screen that can display the contents of any computer it is connected to... [Apple] certainly has something truly noteworthy up its sleeve for July that is not necessarily a new computer per se.."

    How about a PDA

That would be a nice step. Something that will rival Sony's clie. Someone has to do it.

And I am a Mac Advocate, but I am not a Zombie. I buy Apple products because the are superior to anything else out there.

    It's gonna work

Whatever Apple comes out with, it's gonna be a it.

I'm just scared of the price of this new device... Just like I was with the iPod. But even then, it was a success, people are buying it even if I think it's waaaaaaaayyyyyyy to expensive.

    Tablet likely

Why else would Apple be so keen on the Inkwell technology in 10.2 if only the occassional user will have a Wacom style tablet?

If hand-writing recognition done right is Apple new toy, an Apple-branded input device is a safe bet.

    Hmm. Mainstream rumors

Interesting that Forbes is now Apple rumor-mongering. While a detachable screen iMac has been a rumor since the first talk of a flat-screen iMac, I'm not sure I see the demand for such a device.

To prove my point, note that Microsoft has already announced just such a product. Contrary to the company myth, Microsoft didn't get where they are by innovation, and most of the innovative products they have come out with over the years have failed miserably.

    "certainly"

Apple certainly has something truly noteworthy up its sleeve...

Wow. This person must have the inside track. They seem to know for certain that Apple will release such a product. I hate c*** like this. People get all crazy with the rumours and before you know it, Apple is expected to release something that can read your brainwaves, wash your dishes, and cost $899. When Steve fails to unveil such a ludicrous product at Macworld, the Apple-bashing and whining begins. Reveal your source, Forbes, or STFU.
