Aladdin Systems today announced the availability of Spring Cleaning v5.0 for Mac OS 9/X, an update to the well-known software uninstaller. This version is optimized for Mac OS X and provides new Internet-specific features that help protect privacy. Spring Cleaning 5.0 can edit cookie files, perform custom searches, compare files and folders to identify duplicates and take advantage of Mac OS X UNIX root capabilities.

    Aladdin -- with all their experience compressing files -- should make a backup utility for OSX that would make Dantz take notice... and users like me think twice.

    Another goof

    Their promotion clearly states on the Aladdin web site that anyone who upgrades to Spring Cleaning gets a free copy of Techtracker Pro. So when I ordered it gave the http downloads for OS X and OS 9 versions 5 of Spring Cleaning plus the FREE Techtracker Pro which I also downloaded and installed. But there was no registration number provided with the order for Techtracker Pro.

    So I called Techtracker thinking I had a problem with the Techtracker login that I used before on a free trial basis, but the Tecgtraker Pro tech support said no dice. Aladdin told them this free offer from Aladdin was only for new Spring Cleaning buyers and not available for upgrades.

    This is wrong.

    To quote their web site:

    So this is an error because this clearly states that Techtracker PRO is FREE for all 5.0 upgrades and now it's my problem to fix. Thought everyone should know.
