A MacNN reader followed-up on yesterday's iPod failure notes: "Apple Retail stores have been authorized to perform out of warranty repairs for free on iPods. This has not been publically announced, but when I brought my iPod in for a repair one of the 'Geniuses' told me that it was free of charge and told me about this free repairs." [unconfirmed]

    Oh stop it already!

They're fixing it for free as they should, and people are still whining. Do you want Steve Jobs to come kiss your feet?

    Extended to one year.

Called Apple in Europe today - since my ipod doesn't charge anymore. suddenly - no incident or whatsoever.
asked if it is still under warranty (bought it last november). Apple rep. told me that the warranty has been extended to a full year !!
This is anyway according to the laws here in europe. anyway . cool. will send it in for repair now...

    European laws

As JohnCoffee notes, the law over here is that you have to give a year's warrantee on these things.

    In Europe,

In Europe, it always has been a year, as far as I know... I think it's due to some sort of commercial legal restriction.

    Europe Law

We should be protected like that in the US, but the corporations control our government so that could never be allowed to happen.

    European Warranties

Always a minimum of one Year on ANY goods (apart from perishables and such like).
Whatever the companies may say themselves, you are guaranteed a minimum of a year.
There was also talk of a new law to make this THREE years, but I don't think this applied in all cases…
Anyway, at least something we have ahead (but then again, we pay an awful lot more to start with as well…)
