    Yeesh!

Was this article just to get hits? Anyone that hasn't already gotten this updater for their 'Pod, must've been living in a cave... or just woke up from a coma... or... something.

Considering all the problems people are having with their iPods, this is newsworthy for sure. This development will ensure that more people get firmware updates, that may resolve some of the fast battery drain issues.

    update name?

Could someone go into the /Library/Receipts folder once you've downloaded this update, and tell me the name of its package? It should be something like "iPodSoftwareUpdater.pkg" or something. I need this so I can make a file with the same name in that folder, and not have to download this update and have it show up in the list of available software to update.

WiseWeasel: Can't you just go into Software Update, Highlight the iPod package and then select Update->Make Inactive from the menu?

You can, but the next time (and every subsequent time) you launch Software Update, it will put up a dialog telling you there are hidden updates and asking if you want to install them. It's more of an annoyance than anything else, since you have to dismiss the dialog every single time.

For the "MacNN is Non-News" whiners-- at least this site, unlike MacCentral, hinted that the news is that the updater (which many of us have already used and forgotten about ) is available via software update. Its the availability via Software update that is news.
