Has any one upgraded to DVD Studio Pro. I''ve upgraded Final Cut but I think that the upgrade price for DVD studio pro is way too high. I was disapointed after I spent $999 and then shortly after idvd 2 was released with most of the features for free. I know Studio Pro is part if the pro line but how many people are really burning 1000's of DVD's to justify its cost. My company has burned a few DVD's on it for presentations and thats it. Big time studio's have to send the DVD files out to be mass produced, so who exactly is this marketed for. I would love to upgrade to the os-x version but I will not at that price. Does anyone else feel the same way or is it just me?
DVDSP is for authoring DVDs not producing/burning DVDs. You use DVDSP to make interactive menus, chapter selections, commentaries and all the tons of other stuff put into DVDs these days. You then take all that data and send it to a place for mass production.
What you're saying is like saying Director is useless for making interactive CDROMs when there are production facilities who stamp out CDs.
DVDSP makes the content (and yes, a lot more than iDVD can) and the other companies mass produce the DVDs.
2 different markets. You're getting them mixed up because iDVD does it all together in one.

well, technically both of them do both. You can burn a DVD from within DVD Studio Pro.
iDVD is limited to the 4.7GB media that the superdrive burns. DVD Studio Pro can either write to that media, write to a DLT drive (to send projects off for duplication), or create a disc image that can be burned and re-burned in Toast as necessary.
The improvements in DVD Studio Pro 1.5 are very much worth the upgrade price. Since you already have final cut pro 3, you can now assign chapter markers in FCP and DVD Studio Pro will automatically assign them (saves me HOURS...).
With 1.5, DVD Studio Pro is faster/more responsive in X than it ever was in 9 on my G4 733. The previews are more accurate. There's also an option to include DVD-ROM material now.
I'm pretty excited about DVDSP 1.5... too bad i don't qualify for the rebate. : (
Thanks for your responses. I do know what DVD Studio Pro is capable of doing, I own v1.0. Both idvd and DVDSP author and burn DVD’s so I don’t understand the analogy about director and stamping out CD’s. The main reason I got it was because of its ability to control the encoding of mpeg2. At that time idvd had a limit of 1 hour of video, and was very limited in menu creation. Idvd2 now has a 90 min cap and has many more options. Obviously DVDSP has many more features and abilities. The main thing being that you can master DVD’s and save them for mass production output. My point is how many people are actually using it for this purpose rather than a beefed up version of idvd for the odd burning of a dvds. Maybe there is a big market for this and DVDSP is not geared for me. I just need something a little more powerful than idvd at a fraction of the price of DVDSP. $299 US for an update that doesn’t give me much more than the 1.0 version other than OS-X support in my opinion is a pretty steep price.
