Sorenson responds to Apple lawsuit

Sorenson Media has responded to a lawsuit that has been filed against the company by Apple. Apple has claimed that the release of Sorenson Spark has breached their contract as the company previously signed an agreement with Apple preventing them from "developing, marketing, or licensing" any form of their compression technology used in QuickTime. Sorenson believes that Apple's claims are "without merit, and if necessary, intends to mount a vigorous defense against the allegations." Also, Jim Sorenson, the CEO of Sorenson Media states "We are reasonable, and as is usual practice, we are always willing to discuss and work to resolve issues. In the meantime, we remain focused on executing our overall corporate and product strategy and doing what we feel is best for our customers." [updated]

    It's so cool...

to work with or for Apple these days.
Either they don't give you information or they just sue you.

I tend to believe there will be no Sorenson demo at WWDC...

    Argh !

I bought Sorenson Video Pro 3 & Squeeze as I thought this was the best codec, and because it was supported by Apple for its trailers...
I fear this could change the support of Sorenson codecs :(

    Macromedia Steals Code

Ask Marc Fleury about JRun containing stolen code from the JBoss group.
Kinda makes you wonder about what kind of company Macromedia is.
I don't think it's too far fetched to think that they would pressure Sorenson with lots of $$$ to steal stuff from Apple....do you?

    MP4 On the Way!

Sounds like bad PR for Apple, but I'm sure they have reasons that the media is leaving out (big surprise!)

Hopefully this is a sign that Apple has made way with MPEG-4 licencing and doesn't care about the very dated Sorenson anymore.
