The Iconfactory has released IconBuilder Pro 3.5, an OS X compatible version of its professional icon creation filter/plugin for Photoshop (and compatible applications). It offers compatibility with Photoshop 7 and a revised, Aqua user interface as well as support for 32-bit icons for both OS X and XP, single-click conversion from Mac-to-Windows, and translucent / transparent masking of icons. The $70 utility is a free upgrade to registered users of v3.x.

    Waaaay too expensive

    Hey IconFactory:

US$69.00 might be fine for commercial software developers, but what about all the shareware developers and icon enthusiasts? There's a larger community here that you are ignoring.

FYI, there is a lite version for Photoshop 6 for $29.00 that does classic icons.

we spend hundreds of hours on developing this latest version from the ground up since December. Most important is that... we make a promise not to charge an upgrade fee for this version. And we keep our word and eat the cost.

Developing plug-ins for Photoshop 7 is competely different, and a lot of developers going to spend a fortune to make this happened and we are not a big developer. We don't have a fortune to spend on R&D.

Besides, this is a Photoshop Professional Plug-in. If you don't need the power of Photoshop, there are others editors avaiable in the market. We welcome you to try them all out and see the difference.

    :)
