U.S. Robotics has extended the speeds of its AirPort-compatible products to 22 megabits per second (Mbps), while retaining compatibility with existing 2.4-GHz systems built to the IEEE 802.11b standard. The 22Mbps Wireless Access Point ($200); the 22-mbps Wireless Access PC Card, $100; and the 22-mbps Wireless Access PCI Adapter Card, $120 are expected to ship in June.

    How!?

Does it still conform to the standard? If so, Apple, please take advantage of this!

It probably holds to the 802.11g standard.
11g runs at 2.4GHz, is backwards compatable with 802.11b, and runs at 22Mbps.

    Yep

    What He said....

802.11g, that would be Airport 3? I wonder if we could pull the wavelan card from a base station and use one of the new cards? :) might be worth a try :)

    Re: How

Just everyone has to keep in mind that the 22 mps speed improvement will not speed up your internet connection, even over 1.5 mbs DSL. The current Airport standard handles that fine. The improvemnt is really in computer to computer file transfers over your LAN. This is really useful for schools etc, but for most home users the speed issue is a red herring.

However, the range issue really is important for everyone.

    It isnt 11g

This is still 802.11b with the same type of "super mode" that 802.11a has. 11g chips are still being worked on.. they just arnt ready for product. I work for a wireless card mfg.. we are putting out these 11b+ cards too.

    In that case...

In that case, would it be possible to swap out a wavelan card from a ABS 1 or 2 to the new card? Sounds like it might work...
