Mac.com Webmail has been released from Apple. The beta version of the web-based Mac.com email allows checking of mail from anywhere, instead of just from a setup email client.

    Very Cool

Just checked this out.....they did a pretty faithful job of mimicking a lot of the mail.app program. The only downside is that there doesn't seem to be as much access to some of the advanced filtering options that are available in mail.app, but it's still pretty nice.

This solves a big thing for me, as I like to use my mac.com account for a lot of things, but now I can easily access it anywhere without having to configure my account on a local copy of outlook or something.

    Excellent

I can stop using Hotmail now! Whoo Hoo!

I agree that the filtering feature is a downside but, I'll live. Spell check would be nice too.

I'm so glad Apple is providing this service now.

    fast!

Wow, they did a great job. I never liked web-based email before because of the speed, or lack thereof, but this interface just screams. Well done, Apple!

    Re: filters

Filters would be hard for Apple to accomodate, since they're in the email program, not stored on the web (aren't they?). I don't use Mail.app, so I couldn't say.

However, it is very fast. On this same computer I accessed my company's web mail system to delete a message and it takes forever to load info.

And I can't believe anyone thought Hotmail was ever better than mac.com (or anything for that matter). Mail I get from Hotmail tends to be c***. I don't get spam or whatever from mac.com addresses (OK, so that means squat I know, but its a principle thing).

    Yahoo ends, Mac begins

My free Yahoo account ends on the 24th. This is perfect timing. I preferred it to my mac.com account because I could check my personal email on Yahoo at work and see it in mail.app at home. This ends on the 24th so now I can switch to my mac.com account for web and mail.app access. Excellent!

Are you saying Yahoo is going to start charging for e-mail service on the 24th?
