    OK

So give me the drive for $200 so I can add it to my existing G4 and I'll buy one today.

    "A MacNN reader" equals

    "MacNN ripped this from Surfer/Minute/Central/Slash/VersionTracker..."

What's with MacNN's reluctance to ever credit where credit is due? At the same time, Central isn't much better.

    would ya take it on...

a trade in upgrade (like the TiBooks had)? You give Apple 200$ and your old CDRW and you get a superdrive.

how do the iMac 800 and PowerMac 800 stack-up now?

Is this product clearing in effect here? Will the next Powermac rev feature SUPERDRIVES across the board? And will those superdrives be delete options???

    $1400 for ADC Discount!

This is cool. With my ADC discount, I can get the 800MHz model with SuperDrive for $1400 now. I've been holding out since really want a quiet machine like a new iMac but the 15" screen just isn't big enough. Now that the price is this cheap, I just may buy one anyway... Go Apple!

    This is AWESOME news!!!

    I'm glad I waited. I really didn't need a workhorse machine, just an entry-level G4 that could burn DVD's.

    Product clearing...YES!

Since faster DVD-R drives have been announced by Pioneer [or Panasonic, I forget], it would seem that Apple is trying to clear out inventory of Superdrives for the next rev of the G4 tower.

I doubt that all the PMG4 towers will have Superdrives, i think they may have the BTO, but not as standard, they need to have the lower cost option available to people and schools.
