According to O'Grady's PowerPage, Mathworks is considering a Mac OS X version of Mathlab, a technical packages widely used in engineering and science. Support for OS 9 was dropped several years ago, and hopeful users are looking for more support from the Mac community.

    typo

there is no "h" in the name of the application as in "Matlab" by "MathWorks". :)

    Yes, O'Grady's is wrong

The program is called "MatLab", not "MathLab". And I would love to see this program available on OS X.

    Octave

Mathworks makes Matlab for Linux. They totally snobbed out OS X. What were they thinking, that Linux can get a bigger market share than OS X?

Anyway, I've settled for Octave. It's free and does what I need.

    F*ck Mathworks

I went with Mathematica. Will never use Matlab again. They've lost one customer for life.

    Crucial product

If Apple is to have ANY chance in the engineering market, Matlab must run on OSX. Matlab is the standard - that's the unpalatable truth. Mathematica is brilliant, but is aimed at a different market segment and is a complementary product.

    Build it ...

... and they will come. (I've been using v.5.2 forever. It's still servicable, but hardly current. The lack of support has driven some colleagues to learn/adopt SciLab. I may too, if the Mathworks doesn't get a move on!)

    Mathwork's Number Proble

Why doesn't Mathworks use their fancy stats package to make an accurate market forecast? They should have seen the MacOS X's strengths a long time ago.

The whole neglect things has been good in some sense, since it has given room for other packages to get exposure and build prestige.
