Adobe officially announces shipments of PS 7

Adobe today announced the immediate availability of Photoshop 7.0, following our report this past weekend. Enhancements include a new File Browser for image organization (with rotate, sort, rank, and batch rename functions), a new Healing Brush for simplified photo retouching, and a new Painting Engine to simulate traditional painting techniques. Upgrades to the $610 application are $150 and include a "Best of Photoshop 7.0" training CD for a limited time. Adobe has also posted its new Photoshop 7.0 Scripting plug-in to automate repetitive tasks in JavaScript or AppleScript.

I can't wait!!!!!!

I recently purchased the digital video collection, and was eligible for the free upgrade. I called it in yesterday. Finally... NO MORE OS9!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say illustrator 10, and AE 5.5 are incredible. Premeire not Xized, but who the F*** cares, I have FCP 3:)!

I checked the TotalTraining new features videos and they said there's no airbrush anymore, and if you look into the tool palette, it's true.

You can use most tools as an airbrush now. No need for a specific airbrush tool anymore. Just wondering how usable PS7 will be. And if any major bug won't affect some of our work. I can't even run InDesign 2 under OS X. I guess I should re-install it but since no customers have ever sent us any document created with ID2, I don't see what's the hurry - plus ID 2 runs well under OS 9.

Got my copy this morning from Airborne. Ordered on 3/28 from Adobe.com.

I didn't get any emails from adobe saying it shipped, and my account info at store.adobe.com doesn't have any shipping information either...but here it is! :-)

They must be sending these things out as fast as they can. My shipping box wasn't even sealed. Just had the tabs inserted, no tape.

Healing brush and tool presets rock!

What can you do with the Airbrush Tool that you can't do with the Paintbrush Tool?
Ok, the most important one, as far as I know, with the airbrush set to 10%, use black, clic and hold on your canvas, without releasing the mouse button keep airbrushing, notice how the area being airbrushed keeps getting darker and darker (and wider), just like with a normal airbrush, the same technique can be used to darken an area with one simple clic and hold of the mouse button (so easily undoable with COMMAND-Z).

Now try with paintbrush, set it to 10%, use black, clic and hold. What happens? What do you think, the area under your paintbrush gets darker by 10%, and that's it, if you want darker, you have to use a series of multiple clics, thus making it hard to undo, since you have to go into History to undo them all.

In short, I want my airbrush back.

Airbrush is NOT gone

deckard97, I tried what you said. And my paintbrush does build up gradually without moving it or clicking again. And do you know why? Because I TURNED ON THE NEW AIRBRUSH ICON IN THE OPTIONS BAR! Which makes any tool an airbrush.

The airbrush has not been removed. It has been assimilated.

And I can't figure out why people are so interested in panicking just because of some one badly worded line from a training outfit that doesn't even belong to Adobe.

Mine came too. Installed it, and found it looks a lot like 5.5, which is the previous version from my point of view, but it runs native! So we've got Retrospect, which was my hold up, Photoshop, which I use occasionally, ImageReady, which I use more often,... now all I need is a final version of Unreal Tournement and I'll not need to boot into 9.2.2 for much of anything!

Not *quite* there...

Sadly, Adobe redesigned the plugin API, so plugins will need to be rewritten for Photoshop 7. As far as I know, only Alien Skin have promised to do this, and only to one of their suite of plugins. While Adobe ships a nice set with Photoshop 7, the more lack of third party ones will be a serious hindrance.

I've also noticed that the text tool is unable to render some fonts--at least, none of the *dings fonts from Microsoft work. Again, this is a hindrance. Otherwise, the app runs smoothly and reasonably fast, from my experimenting so far.

I did find out the airbrush capability for paintbrush, but there's a discussion about this on the adobe forums, and I'm not the only one that says that this new airbrush-capability way of doing things is'nt how the old airbrush used to behave, with that "flow" thingy, not as effective.
