    Upgrades are $10??

The interface on the previous version was so abysmal, they should either make upgrades free or give refunds to those who purchased the old version.

    Re: Upgrades are $10??

If I remember correctly, version 3.8 was a free upgrade to version 3.7. I think the last time I paid for an upgrade was sometime back in 1999. I'll gladly pay this $10 upgrade fee. Interarchy rocks! Too bad they had to change the name from Anarchie though. I'm still sad about that.

I agree, though the new interface lacks quite a bit as well. This is useful software, but certainly not worth $35 nor a $10 upgrade. In fact, Stairways should just give it up and open source it. That's where it belongs. The shell in Mac OS X will make it pretty much obsolete.

I think I'll pass unless Stairways can post a major reason why we should upgrade. The old version works okay, and what I see so far ain't worth $10 more.

I agree, this version fixes the interface problem of version 3.8. This should be a free upgrade.

    serial number!

Beware. If you are a registered user then running version 4.0 will REMOVE your registration information! Trying to enter your serial number (from 3.7/3.8) displays a message that you have to pay for an upgrade. And now, version 3.8 will also think you have not registered!!!
So keep your old serial number at hand unless you want to unregister your previous version!

Can I now turn off the ad

Someone please let me know: Can I now turn off the annoying startup-banner (or is it possible in 3.8 & I somehow missed it?) It might be worth the 10 bucks just to loose the annoying "V'Ger - Priestess of the occult".

(Yes - I could ResEdit it into oblivian but it's not worth mucking around with.)

Free upgrade to OS X vers

As mentioned in the notes, an OS X version is forthcoming and will come free with a 4.0 registration. There are no significant feature changes from 3.8 - 4.0, as many other people have mentioned.

    Other changes:

    - Menu and general interface cleanup, with some additional options for opening folders and editing interfaces
    - "Startup Items" as URLs replaced with startup items folder
    - Network Status window redesign (mine, so I'm a little biased :-)

And yes, the startup screen is gone.

If you purchased 3.8, I think a free upgrade to 4.0 is in order; otherwise the fee seems quite reasonable.

    They lost me...

I think they have lost their minds trying to position Interarchy as some kind of Internet control center, when all I wanted was a slick FTP client. I ended up moving to VIcom's FTP client as it works much better for FTP. This "skins" thing is kind of hokey, too.

    This guy worries me...

I dont like the creator of this program. He seems to concerned about himself. I'm on the beta test list he runs around saying how he has over 400 000 registered users, and thousands of beta testers, i mean really, the only program I know with that many users aside from Mac OS is Internet Explorer or the larger apps like PS6 and maybe Kaliedoscope. This guy has his head so far up his a** its ridiculous. You request a feature he tells you to bug off. However it is probably the best FTP program for mac..which really shows you something..we need more developers!
