i don't know how apple handles them (i have not put anything on preorder with them, per se, in the past), but i have bought software packages and such on preorder, and they've only charged my credit card when it was shipping.
so if that's the case, and there are still preorders outstanding, then there's still money not in apple's pocket.
maybe if they're low, they'll do what they've done in the past, and do a midnight sale of a factory in the other side of the world, or some more ARM shares to boost the bottom line. or else they'll just say "hey, wake up, we're ALL hurting out here."
I believe the rec was from "hold" to "buy" with eventual target $30. Thursday (the day of the upgrade) AAPL held up nicely but sold off in last 30 minutes. Friday it didn't sell off and closed a few pennies over $25 (ina down mkt). So Monday-Wed should be in-ter-est-ing!
And what is the matter with Nvidia?? down over 30%??
dont sleep - apple makes $$$ - between the iPod - iMac and iBook - all the recent applications and interest they earn off of that 4.X billion they got sitting in the bank - fred anderson knows his stuff - in a big way. not to mention powermac sales and
Ti sales shoudl definitely add to the bottom line. Apple is going to come out squeeky clean this quarter - next quarter should be even better with macworld NYC and all.
- makes me wish I owned more than 300 shares of that bad boy - actually - I wish my whole portfolio was performing like apples stock over the past 9 months. like totally dude!!!
Otherwise Apple would have warned a week ago. Either that, or a very minor loss. Not to mention sales of the iMacs are hitting at a record pace. With over half of last quarter's total unit sale numbers going to LCDs requested from Quanta for the next quarter, demand for LCD Macs of anykind are consisting of over half of all sales! Otherwise Apple wouldn't ask for 500,000 LCDs for this upcoming quarter. Last quarter Apple sold 800,000 machines. Given that level of demand, I think Apple has caught on to the fact it has a hit, and will be meeting demand for months to come! If Apple ships half a million iMacs that would be amazing.
I wonder if Apple could conceiveably hit 1 million (combined shipped + pre-orders) by MWNY. Then Steve will get on stage and say 'BOOH YEAH' and behind him, on his blue presentation screen it will spell out 'BOOH YEAH' 'cause Apple like to think (and spell) different.

The iMac fiasco (and there is no other name for it) has left Apple struggling to maintain profitability and Jobs precious market share has only LOST OUT because of it. Sure, you can blame the hardware companies, but Jobs had to have KNOWN about the potential shortage when he was posing for Time. After all, we live in an information-based society...ha! I'd be amazed if there is any profit whatsoever.
Somebodys mad that they didnt buy more apple stock. :( Its still ok, if you buy now you can earn 5 dollars per share. If those damn G5's are released soon, all I can say is "Its over!". hehe
I'm not sure why everyone is still moaning about the lack of iMacs available. My father-in-law just bought a 700 Mhz Combo-Drive one and we had no trouble finding one. In fact, so many places had them that we had to comparison shop to see who gave the best deal. Amazon.com sold us one last Sunday afternoon (for the pre-price-hike price of $1495 no less!) and he had it on his doorstep Friday with free shipping and no sales tax! MacMall, Zones.com also had them, as well as the Apple store here in Dallas. Another friend just bought a Superdrive model one at a local CompUSA - no waiting either.
Well of course your father-in-law and friend didn't have to wait -- they've purchased it within the past two weeks. The model had aparently been brought out January 14th, remember? During the first two months of it's "release" the only outlets were the Apple Store and a few CompUSAs. It hurt, definitely. As an employee at an independent Apple retailer, my trust has been severely dampened by Steve & co.'s persistent lies and falsehoods about the lack of product and the large amounts of Imacs that reach the Apple Stores vs. the few that reach the independent. But that's another debate for another time. For now, I'm waiting to see what happens on Wednesday.

1st POST, BOOH YEAH!!!
I wonder how well Apple will do relative to projections? They seem to have be stable in the last little while. Also while a lot of iMacs didn't ship initially it seems that a whole bunch were pre-ordered, doesn't that count as a sale? Ad hasn't another prominent analyst recently upgraded apple to a Strong Buy rating?
