    Professor Chaos strikes again!

BTW, I sold another friend on Macs today. We were at my girlfriend's house and he was totally impressed by OS X.

His only complaint? Speed. Apple's gotta get a move on. They've got an incredible asset in OS X. I haven't met a single Windows person who hasn't liked OS X. But invariably the speed thing comes up. Other than on the latest PowerMacs and iMac G4s, OS X's slow. (And even then, there are still slow processes, like scrolling through PDFs.)

it's os x's fault because preview.app gives crappy performance too. don't forget apple went with a pdf-based graphics architecture.

    Performance

Just remember how bad the Mac OS 8.x performance was and think about how much it improved in Mac OS 9.x. I don't expect BeOS speeds, but I do expect speeds surpassing Mac OS 9.x.

They've done an amazing job of combining two disparate operating systems and making them into something else. It's quite an accomplishment.
