BitHeadz shipping Unity 3 Session

updated 11:10 am EDT, Thu April 11, 2002

BitHeadz is now shipping Unity 3 Session, a Mac-only version of its product that combines and expands upon Unity DS-1, Osmosis, and Retro AS-1. Version 3.0's plug-in architecture allows the combination of sampling, synthesis, and physical modeling, with extensive real-time audio manipulation features. Multi-synthesized sounds, now called 'Instruments,' can be edited and later accessed by third party sequencers via MIDI. It also offers playback of samples loaded into RAM while simultaneously streaming larger samples off the hard drive and will now detect MAS, VST, RTAS, or DirectConnect set-ups automatically and configure itself appropriately. It is $650 and is available for Classic and OS X.

    1st POST, BOOH YEAH!!!

The 'BOOH YEAH' guy still uses his Atari ST for sequencing (Notator Baby!) and it NEVER crashes. Can't say that for any platform since. But Mac is the second nicest platform for music, and this just makes it a little nicer. Starting to feel the OSX buzz.

    I wonder how ...

...reliable AtariST emulation would be on a mac? Isn't it funny, whenever sequencing comes up at least a half dozen people clinging to their aging ST's make an appearance.

    BOOH HOO

The BOOH YEAH guy really gets on my nerves with that first post BS and the unoriginal, not to mention annoying, BOOH YEAH.

    The BONE HEAD Guy...

in addition to being highly annoying with this continual "first post" crapola (

    - geez, dude, if that's the highest accomplishment you have in your life, I feel sorry for you -

completely misses the point again. Unity is a SYNTHESIS program, not a sequencer. Let's keep to the point, OK?

No need to say it twice

As nerds say "Forum are so much fun and should be kept that way" so what's the point of criticizing the 'BOOH YEAH' guy who spends 24 hours a day on macnn ? Hey Bone Head Guy, I wanted to write x'th post but because you doubled posted your message, should I write 9th or 10th post? Or 11th ? I'm kinda losing track of all posts here.

Back to the topic, it's rather courageous for BitHeadz to release a Mac-only application. Many companies in the computer music business used to be Mac-only but eventually released Windows versions as well.

I'm reluctant to moving to OS X, mostly because I have a beige G3. But music in OS X seems to be very promising and impressive too. The MIDI implementation and the audio core should kick some wintel asses.
