Dell, others raise PC prices

In recent weeks, PC manufacturer Dell Computer has introduced several new computer models that sport faster processors and more memory, but also carry larger price tags for what would normally be successor products. In an effort to maintain profitability on bargain-basement PCs, rising component costs have forced Dell to raise the price of low-end machines and offer relatively marginal improvements, according to a Yahoo! report. Earlier this month, Apple raised the cost of all three iMac models by $100.

    WOOO! First Post!

    First Post!!!!

New Dell's will be more expensive, and they will still be beige! Makes the new iMac price increase a bit easier to take, and the reason for it more believeable.

    The difference is...

These are new computers/models. Apple RAISED the price on a current model without adding anything at all. BAD BAD Stevie. BAD Stevie! Now go back to your jet and don't come out untill you're ready to apologize to the nice Mac people!

    Where's that analyst?!

I remember when the iMac increase story broke, some stock/industry analyst stated that this would not be the case with the PC segment.

Just goes to show you that these asses are no more credible in telling you what really going on than you can find on your own.

FYI, the iMac are new products too... so they fall in line with the Dell reasoning as well.

    Hey Larry

    IT BEARS READING:
"But analysts say that at times reconfiguration can be considered a price increase.Though Dell's price changes are difficult to track because the company often changes its PC hardware configurations and prices daily, ARS, which tracks PC prices and retail sales, says its research shows a general upward trend in the prices of Dell's most basic PC configurations.
