Extensis has released Suitcase 10.1.2, a free update to its $100 font management utility that includes an updated font manager with support for Auto-Activation in OS X. It has a bug fix for auto-activating fonts in Mac OS X Classic Mode for users with International English operating systems and has added Auto-Activation support for Adobe Illustrator 10 in both Mac OS 9 and OS X. Upgrades are $50.

    Why?

I doubt this is needed in OS X. The unix font management is pretty powerful.

    Why? I'll tell you why!

    Why?

Because if your a designer, a font management tool is essential in organizing your hundreds and in some cases, thousands of fonts. Both this app and fontreserve (which I prefer) both allow previews of your fonts, print character sheets, activate fonts on the fly when opening files with fonts that aren't activated, and allows creation of sets (per job, client, type foundry, etc.).

    THAT's why...

    Yes that's why...

You need thousands of fonts? look closely at good work if you ever get the chance, good work will focus on the same dependable typography time and time again. Those who don't understand typography tend to over use typography.

Most of the world leading designers have a max of ten fonts in their suitcases. But you'd probably call them boring.

I do like extensis suitcase. It's effective and functional. But it's made for people like you.
