Apple's BlueTooth page talks about the open-specification technology that enables short-range wireless connections between desktop and laptop computers, noting that Bluetooth is to Firewire/USB as AirPort is to Ethernet. Apple's BlueTooth Technology Preview 1 software is due in April as a free download.

    surprised to find that...

Their Bluetooth hardware is coming from D-Link of all places.. I have some of their 802.11b hardware (not the cards.. still had to get those from Apple) but it works great. I only wish they had Mac drivers for their 11b cards. I found out that D-Link is also putting out drivers for their Ethernet NIC. They even have OSX drivers now. Although you have to look on ftp.dlink.com to find them.

    Oh my head,

I bought one of these from ebay for something like $10, it's a 100baseT PCI ethernet card with drivers for both OS 9 and OS X (as referenced above). I stuck it in a 7300/200 and installed OS X, and it sees the card fine; not bad for such a low investment.

    Me Thinks

I don't know, I want to see wireless keyboards and mice when (should say 'if') the new g5 comes out. I think BlueTooth is how they will do it.

apple is about removing the wires.

    BlueTooh(sic)?

Someone needs to add "BlueTooth" to their spell checker. :)

I'm actually a little amazed by this. I thought Apple were never going to get with the programme (ie BlueTooth), and the rest of the PC world looked like it would. And then Apple comes out and says "We'll have support in April".

I personally think this means Apple are thinking wireless keyboards and mouses. And Apple may be just what the BlueTooth consortium needs - just like Apple made the USB industry, they might do the same with BlueTooth.

    how does it compare?

Bluetooth vs. USB or firewire or ethernet... how fast are these for transferring data? Just curious.
