Apple Store offers more coupons

updated 08:05 am EST, Mon December 11, 2000

Several readers note that Apple has begun offering $25-off-$250 coupons to individuals who have registered at the Apple Store, even if they have never made a purchase. On Thursday we noted that Apple gave $150 coupons to many users who have made purchases in the last year, as part of the Apple Store's third birthday celebration. Like the $150 coupon, the $25 coupon expires December 19.

    HTML coupons

The coupons are in HTML (clearly the Apple Store believes everyone reads mail with IE or Netscape). If you are able to turn HTML off in your mail client, none of the HTML code will appear.

I normally turn off HTML in mail in Eudora, so I saved the message to an ASCII file and opened it in Netscape. It was still a bit strange, so I used SimpleText to edit out the extraneous stuff at the top and bottom of the file until the first line was
left angle bracket-HTML-right angle bracket, and the last line was left angle bracket-/HTML-right angle bracket. Then Netscape handles it fine, and I could see how much the mysterious coupon was for.

    eCoupons

I just called Deb at Apple (1.800.409.5381 EX2547) and she forwarded me to a service rep that gave me a $150 eCoupon. I then called Deb back and ordered an AirPort Base Station.

    Didn't work?

So you did not get to purchase the Base Station with your $150.00 coupon?

    1500 minimum

I think you need to purchase 1500 worth of goods before one can use the coupons.

    No Coupons for Canadians?

I've purchased several items from the online Apple Canada Store on two different occations. I guess Canadians either get their coupons later (better hurry if they expire on Dec 19) or not at all :(

    I didn't get one either

I guess that the Educational customers don't get coupons either. I wasn't planning on buying anything anyways, but if they I could get a $100 widget for $25-$50, then I might make a trip over to the Apple store. Oh well, I didn't need anything anyways.
