FileMaker has begun shipping FileMaker Mobile Companion for Palm OS. The $50 software allows users to synchronize data between FileMaker Pro 5.0v3 databases and Palm OS-based handhelds. The software requires Palm OS 3.1 or later.

    No intelligence

It'd be nice if the Palm portion of FM Mobile had at some intelligence to it. All it does is make data entry forms on your Palm and syncs them. I'd like to see Auto-Enter, Validate, and even some basic calculation field functionality.

There are other Palm DBs out there with this functionality. Some of which can sync to FileMaker already.

I'm waiting to see what they do with a future version of FM Mobile.

    Ditto. Typical FM Product

They did this will FileMaker Pro 5, too. Lack of features, but hefty price tag. Leave it to them. I guess it was to be expected.

    Can't Synch A Shared DB

I tested this product and quickly abandoned it after learning that it doesn't work with shared databases. You have to un-share a database and put it on your desktop before you can synch it with FM Mobile.

    FMSync is much better

Nobody should waste their time with this AWFUL PRODUCT from FileMaker, Inc. It is NOTHING compared to "FMSync For JFile", a much more intelligent, much more robust, much more feature-packed conduit that has been out for many years and is much better than FileMaker Mobile. FileMaker Mobile is a joke, and the entire FileMaker development community is laughing at it.

    what, no demo?

I have been looking to convert some databases to the palm for quite a while. They are not that complicated, but a couple of simple relationships keep any of the current databases available for it from working.

I would love to try out the Filemaker solution to see if it will let me do what I want, but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a demo version. If you want to try it out you have to buy it.

Thats unfortunate since I'm not about to pay them $50 for something I dont know if I can actually use! I can't believe there is no demo version! Even limiting me to 10 records or something would let me find out if it would work.

I have demos of EVERY other palm database solution. I guess filemaker isn't really interested in competing with them afterall.

If I somehow missed the link please post it and forgive my rant:)
