Apple has released an AirPort Graphite Basestation 3.84 firmware update, which addresses a DHCP lease issue on graphite Airport base stations begin used on the Comcast and Rogers cable networks: "[it] resolves a problem that prevented the Airport from obtaining an IP address from DHCP servers on Comcast and Rogers cable networks after the @Home conversion. After personally installing the firmware update my Airport has been able to lease an IP address from the DHCP server on the Rogers network, before the update it would not work."

    Great..

Now this release this. After I went out and bought a router so I could get on to @Home. Looks like that was a waste of $150.

    ??

I have Comcast and connect with the base station that is connected to a Linksys router. I have no problems connecting, will this update do anything for me or should I stay away?

    Old vs. New

The old one is the graphite, the new one is white.

    Old vs. New

iChick is correct. Apple's official designations are now "Graphite" for the old base station, and "Dual Ethernet" for the new.

Phat b******, if you have an old AP base station, the router you bought will give you the security features of the new base stations. It will allow you to keep your local network (LAN) separated from the outside world (WAN). I wouldn't run an old base station without a $70 LinkSys router in "front" of it. In fact, I run 3 that way..

    Re: Port Mapping

I use port mapping all the time on my "graphite" base station and have no problems at all. Are you sure you set it up correctly?
