Macromedia today announced it is shipping Flash MX, the latest version of the Macromedia Flash development environment. It offers support for video, application components, and accessibility. The $500 application is available as $200 upgrade. Macromedia also released Flash Player 6, a new version of its Web browser plugin for playing back Flash and other content within the Web browser.

    hmmm

Ok - we all know that Photoshop should have been here awhile ago, and that yes, they have announced it and it IS actually coming. I must say though - Macromedia announced it and then shipped the actual product in a very SHORT time period. Unlike Adobe - "We are announcing this product that will be here in a few months..." Maybe that means Dreamweaver and Fireworks will be announced and actually released sooner than we think!

    Impressed

Have to say I'm impressed by Macromedia's distribution. After reading "overloaded server" comments on other boards I was fearing the worst.

But I clicked the above link and before I could blink the installer had downloaded onto the desktop, coming in at around 150 K/sec.

    So? I'm in Australia!

Installers like these normally come across the Pacific via steampower, eg Mac OS X updates, QuickTime downloads, etc.

AND it's still peak time in the US (4:30 - 7:30 pm).

Well done Macromedia for ensuring good bandwidth. Well done Optus (local ISP) for providing much better throughput than Telstra broadband ever did.

    Smooth Setup

Downloaded and it was a smooth set-up.

    Macromedia, thanks for supporting OSX.

    What the...?

Is Flash Player 6 OS X-native or not? Macromedia doesn't state either way, and it decompressed as a Classic app (installer).

    Thanks for any pointer.

    OSX Native - YES

Once it's decompressed, yes it is native.

    Awsome!

very very very nice update and osX native!
i tought that carbonization would have been the best 'new' feature, but i've already forgot about os issue... there is too many new feature!

component, video, much better gui, using mc for masking, distribute text to layers, etc, etc, etc!!

i've been using flash since version 3 and this one is the best update ever!

    Super

I have to praise MM for their OS X implementation. This is the most comfortable feeling OS X program yet. I love it.
