    Sorry to see it go.

Well I'm very sorry to see Stimpsoft go. It has been a source of imaginative software which did its thing very well. I'll be keeping copies of it all and I use them daily.

    look at the list

of software he has created. an incredible amount of work by one guy. I know how much time this type of stuff takes and he has devoted/sacrificed much of his life to built great apps for free.

Although his software was free, people who steal software or "crack codes" (especially shareware) should think twice before doing so since no matter how you justify it there is a person(s) that needs those fees to make all of this worthwhile.

and if you don't you may see many more closesures like stimpsoft.

I wish him the best and will miss his cat pictures...

    Who cares!

who the h*** cares, the guy made realbasic-ware, thank god he is gone. i remember one time i sent him an e-mail asking if Son of weather grok was made in RB, and he replied very proud "yes, its 100% real basic". it was at that moment that i deleted it from my machine. let me know when Real Software goes out of business, i'll be throwin a party in atlanta, bring your own beer.

    to the posters above

quit acting like ingrates. With pin head responses like if its "real basic it must be c***". and "mood swings " plus the fact that his software was FREE, its a wonder he just didn't say so long a while ago.

Oh and to the stud programmer above can you please post a url of your studly software that does not use realbasic? not a programmer? thought so. go back to napster and ditching P.E. classes .

    Damn!

I love Son of Weather Grok and Snapperhead! I'm going to miss not getting any more updates on these programs. It doesn't matter if they were written in REALbasic as long as they worked well (which they did).

Also, the last time he "closed down his company" was because he received a lot of unpleasant emails demanding he add certain features and fix bugs in Snapperhead (the senders acted like he owed something to them when Snapperhead is, in fact, freeware) but he got enough sympathy email back from fans that he decided to continue work. I haven't been to his site yet today, so I don't know if that's the case this time.

    Tis a sad day!

    I'll miss him

as a long-time user of Son of Weather Grok, I'll miss this kind of devotion to the Mac community. REALBasic? Yes, So F-ing what? Do I want more Cocoa apps? Yes, but so what? SWG is a nice piece of software that I still use every day [and for which I sent Stimpsoft $25. Thank goodness that the REALBasic-bashers don't get to actually tell the rest of us what to use. What fascists.

    RE: "Mood Swings" etc.

To the person who accused John of having "mood swings", if you bothered to read what he posted this time and last, the last time he shut down for a while was due to financial reasons. He'd lost his job and, if I remember the circumstances was also having some health problems, and therefore couldn't afford to keep the site going. He subsequently had people help out (volunteering to pay for the software, for instance, for which he has never asked a nickle) and so was able to bring the site back up. This time he feels it's just time to move on.

Re. the comment about RealBasic, would you like some cheese with that whine? John's software almost always worked and worked well, and when it had problems he always fixed it quickly. Who the h@ll CARES what it was written in, C++, RealBasic, or Sanscrit? If you didn't find his software useful, amusing, or both, then no one forced you to use it and you certainly never paid anything for it. Take your RealBasic prejudice and, well, I can't say it in a public forum.

John was a real treasure in the software community, a rare individual not out for every dime he could squeeze, so those of you self-appointed critics can just SHUT THE BLEEP UP!!!

John, thanks for all the fun times and useful and amusing site and software. Whatever you decide to do with your time, the best of luck and nothing but fun and prosperity. I hope you'll stick around the Mac community in some form. My best to the "stars" of CatCam as well; give 'em a kitty treat for me.
