ProVUE today released the iPod Organizer, a new software package that allows the iPod to be used as a data organizer in addition to its normal role as a music player: "users can store and access phone numbers, email addresses, flight numbers, appointment times and more on their iPods. Data can be entered and edited in the Panorama iPod Organizer itself or can be imported from other database or contact manager software. ...[It] requires no special software on the iPod. To transfer data to the iPod the package exports the data as tiny MP3 files compatible with iTunes." The software is $20.

    Why can't Apple do this

Great little program but why can't Apple offer this kinda thing free with their OS?

    Because...

"why can't Apple offer this kinda thing free with their OS?"

Because the iPod is NOT A FREAKIN' PDA!!!! Apple does not, and should not, want to compete in the sagging PDA market. If you need names & phone numbers in electronic form with you at all times, buy a Palm Pilot!

    Duh.

When all is said and done

I'd buy an Apple PDA, but I understand the argument that Apple wouldn't enter this 'sagging' market. Regardless, I use my Handspring for Contact info only. Sure I plan on buying ProVUE's cool hack, why not, get rid of the handspring. Less digital c*** to lug around. Good job ProVUE!

    What are you guys, lost?

Apple just used another companies OS. Which already has WAY more than most standard PDA's!

( Note screen, graphics, You can download ALL these into *ANY* iPod now! Further, if you do not want to use their development environment, use Java 2 EE!!!!)
Also an excellent web browser is available..... The iPod has TWO ARM RISC CPU's , 32MB RAM, MPEG encode/decode Co-Processor

How can one compare this to a PDA? Look what a Palm, or Phone/PDA can do with 2,4,8,16 MB RAM & a single ARM processor! The new Palm has 8 or 16 MB ONLY - Newton had a 25MHz Arm chip in the "Bat Book" & 162.9MHz Strong Arm for Newton Message Pad ( which Apple STILL owns 100% of the patents for too!)
    Think Different!

    Sincerely,
    Armas
