Steve Jobs is among the world's top billionaires, ranking 413th, with a fortune of $1.1 billion. Forbes' 16th annual ranking of the world's billionaires tracks 497 people, including 50% of whom saw their net worth fall and the average net worth dipped from $3.2 billion to $3.1 billion. Bill Gates ($52.8B), Warren Buffett ($35B), Karl Albrecht ($26.8B), Paul Allen ($25.2B), and Apple Board member Larry Ellison ($23.5B) round out the top 5, respectively.

If there's only 500-some Billionaires, how can placing 413th be considered a "top billionaire"?

ANd "Waht the" they can do whatever they want with money they earned. And who says they don't help others? Not to defend Bill Gates but he gives more to charity than almost anyone else on the planet.

I think I just heard someone say Alicia Keyes is not talented. Stick to computer talk buddy, and go buy her CD. She plays the piano pretty damn good, and has a great voice. I agree with the dissing of backstreet boys and all of the other flake bands, but alicia keyes has talent! And she was blatently stoned by the time she received her third award, which makes me wonder what else they give the stars in those big baskets.... hmmm!

Taxes and charity

Unless you are in a tax bracket with a marginal rate over 100 percent, you can't "save some doughs" by making charitable doantions. (Geez, don't computer guys study math?)
For example, using the horrific tax rates of our previous socialist government in British Columbia, if I give 100$ to charity and get a 55$ tax break, I'm still out 45$. The nice thing about deductions is I can effectively direct some of YOUR tax dollars to MY favorite charity. I spend 45, the charity gets 100 and there's 55 less for the government to use to, for example buy cell phones for prostitutes (this really happened!)

Charity division at MS

There is a dept at Microsoft which advises employees, mainly of whom are millionaires in their own right, how to minimize their tax bills.

Charity is the major way for large corporations to minimize tax bills. The Government has done this for a reason. If high income earners aren't offered an outlet to minimize tax in a socially helpful way, they will choose more illicit methods of tax minimization.

If you think I'm cynical, read up on why Ralph Nader claims Microsoft should be forced to pay dividends on its shares. (It doesn't, because it is used as a tax dodge for people in very high income brackets.)

And it seems the higher up on the list, the less honest and legal you are.

But I think Steve Jobs (at No. 413), who effectively started the usable personal computer revolution with Woz in his garage, and built his company's prominence through sheer appeal to excellence, deserves his wealth a great deal more than Gates at No. 1.

Gates has really just copied other people's ideas and built a monopoly through extremely nasty business tactics.

Alicia Keys is "okay," if you like that kind of s***. But she ain't 5 grammies-worth "okay" -- maybe one or two, but 5 is about 4 too many. And her attitude/fa�ade is nauseatingly fake. "Yeah, I'm a n**** beotch! Down wit da homies...yeeeh yeeeh." in one camera and in another camera, "I'm so gracious for these awards...it's so behumbling."
