PC Magazine: iMac elegant and powerful

PC Magazine has posted a glowing review of the new iMac in which editor Troy Dreier calls the iMac's casing " elegant" with its 'retro and futuristic' design ethos: "It also has one of the best ergonomic designs we've seen," Mr. Dreier goes on to say, but criticizes the machine's keyboard and mouse which he claims would fall apart after "a bout of heavy typing." Despite the minor drawbacks noted, the flat-panel iMac received a rating of 4/5.

    Keyboard fall appart?

I saw the new iMac yesterday and except for the keys being white, isn't it the same 'pro' keyboard and mouse that has been shipping with the iMacs and PowerMacs for about 2 years?

How many of those have fallen appart - I know my flatmates hasn't and he hammers out plenty of text on it.

But at least they like the machine in general - I though the design was amazing when I finally got my hands on it - it seems perfectly natural once you sit in front of it for 1 minute. This general idea will be copied on the PC side - too good to be ignored.

    if it's anything like

the original iMac keyboards, they're built to last longer and stay cleaner than their Wintel counterparts. I don't have that annoying dirty clicking sound and feel that I noticed on every non-Mac computer keyboard.

    pro keyboards

He is talking about the current "pro keyboard" which has been out since summer 2000

The keyboards do feel cheap and crappy. Maybe alot nicer to look at than wintel beige keyboards but doesnt feel stronger thats for certain. While the Pro Mouse is alot nicer than the hockey puck mouse the keyboards a step backwards. I know afew people who have bought macs since the new keyboard was introduced and have had problems.

    my keyboard...

fell apart just the other day when my grandma was yelling at me. her dentures fell out and hit some of the keys and they popped off. i was so pissed i gave her teeth to the dog who since buried them somewhere in the back yard. that'll teach her.

    My dog...

Came into the room and barked and my Pro Keyboard broke entirely in two and scattered acroos the room, keys flying wildly, then the walls began to cave in, the earth cracked open and the sky turned black and bruised, and we had months of heavy rain.
