Strata has released Strata 3D v3.7, an upgrade to its 3D modeling and rendering application. In the update are new features including 'Explode,' 'Shatter,' and more than 600 shapes and textures. Also included in the update is the Ravix II vector output plug-in, which saves stills and animations as Shockwave Flash files (similar to Electric Rains' $295 plug-in). Upgrades costs $100 for 3Dplus v3.5 users, $200 for 3Dbase users, and is $250 for a new liscense. A MacNN reader explains some problems with Strata's marketing strategy. Seems like Strata has - again - a paying upgrade.
I guess lots of users don't like it anymore, they come up with minor - but paying - upgrades that are merely bugfixes or re-introduction of lost functionality.

[Strata] is re-introducing the "Explode" and "Shatter" features that were lost in an upgrade from 1.75 Blitz to Strata3Dpro v2.5... if I remember correctly. They will probably reintroduce other, once lost functionality like RayPainting, over time and charge for every so called "upgrade".
They have a strange marketing strategy at Strata these days;
they are charging for features they once removed... and which are re-introduced by bits now.

    One of the

    Crappiest, if not the crappiest software companies out there. I worked for them briefly and saw enough of their business practices to get out of there fast.
    They lie about bugs and blame the user, the take features away when they don't work, then bring them back in a paying upgrade. Studio Pro isn't used by anyone serious in 3D.

    They are a huge joke in the 3D World.

    Correction

    Well, the poster of the original story *almost* got it right...yes those two plug-ins and a bunch of shapes are included.

    There's also the Ravix II plug-in included in this upgrade, which gives you all the capabilities of Electric Rain's Swift3D LW plugin...which you have to buy for Lightwave, at $300 a pop...

    If you don't want it, don't buy it, but don't lie to slam the program and the company because you're a disgruntled ex-employee...

    I first asked them to implement this in 1998 -- and now they're FINALLY adding it. Hmm... why no upgrade from 2.x? Lame...

    Used to be good

    I cut my teeth on Strata3D and thought it had some real strengths up until StudioPro 2.5 when I needed character animation capabiulities and it couldn't cut the mustard (switched to Animation Master for that). It had great texture and lighting controls, and a very well-implemented animation timeline. The modelling was pretty crappy though.
