A MacNN reader forwarded a note from Real about OS X support for its products:

"I received your inquiry here at RealNetworks regarding our servers and players operating under Mac OS X. I get this question quite a bit and the answer is that we are working on it. We don't have it available quite yet but I am told they are in the process. So, we do have plans to support this OS in the future. They couldn't give me a time estimate but they assure me they are working on it. Our newest player, RealOne, focuses on a 3 pane interface and they are in the process of getting this working with OS X. I'm sorry that I don't have any definite information of when we will have it available but even the technicians aren't sure."

    A+ for support!

Hey, that was a nice personalized note from RealNetworks! I'm always very happy to see emails that were written by a human!

    Yeah right.

Lets see, anyone want to guess how long it will take for Real to get their act together? OS X has been in public beta form for a year now. That's 365 days. Even Microsoft got their media player to OS X (though it took them 8 months!). If any mac developers from Real are reading this, you guys deserve so much better than a company which treats you like second class citizens. I'd find a new place to work if I were you, somewhere that won't waste your talent and effort like Real does.

    Argh...

...yeah that was a flame, I know... I just am frustrated at the complete lack of needed attention that OS X is getting from so-called "cross-platform" companies.

    Now that's support!

I think they should atleast publicly announce an ETA of a public beta, or atleast for now release a carbonized browser plugin to hold us over until their big real one player is available.

Actually, Mac developers get treated like royalty here. There just aren't enough of them.
