Fetch creator wins half a million dollars

updated 09:15 pm EST, Wed December 6, 2000

Jon Winter notes that Jim Matthews, author of the popular, but now-dated, Mac FTP client Fetch, won $500,000 on tonight's episode of "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?" "He whipped through most of the questions and didn't use his lifelines until the very end. The last question, he asked the audience and they picked wrong. He wasn't sure so he took the half million and walked away."

    Hmmm....

Having used fetch and then seeing a guy from Dartmouth, I starting thinking - well it turned out to be interesting indeed!

    Outdated?

Outdated? Says who? Sure it's not the most powerful FTP app out, but hey, it's simple, unbloated, and it works

    Yeah for Jim

Jim has also contributed to several other software applications which are wonderful. http://www.dartmouth.edu/pages/softdev/

I've never met Jim in person, but on email lists he is always very nice and helpful. Congratulations to him!

Here is a dartmouth page about his appearance: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~news/releases/dec00/millionaire.html
