    Great News!

This is great news -- that Apple is getting more aggressive about "pushing" it's hardware, rather waiting for people to "discover" it. Go, go, marketshare!!

The ads don't say whether or not the positions are in the Apple Stores or are outside sales. The latter would indeed be a very interesting change in Apple's marketing strategy.

Another item of interest: the ads state that they are looking for people with both "Windows _and_ Mac" knowledge. So perhaps they are looking for people to specifically evangelize to Windows users, and sell the benefits of the Mac platform???!!!

Hopefully, that is indeed the case. . . .

    Windows eXPerience

(Yes, weak pun intended... by Microsoft.)

This is good, AND important. There's no better way to win attention than to be fluent enough in a competitor's product to be able to expose it weaknesses.

Which of these selling techniques would get more attention:

    1) "Windows sux, and Mac is better, 'cause I say so."

    2) "Windows is deficient in the following areas, for instance... Now let's look at how the Mac does it. Isn't that much nicer?!"

    CompUSA

By just looking at the locations in my area of New Jersey, these are all towns that have CompUSA stores in them. Looks like Apple is going to staff the "store within a store" at CompUSA. Good deal!

    And what changes?

"Highly motivated, goal oriented" individuals with commission-based sales experience.

Does Apple think that a highly motivated, goal oriented individual has the muster to go toe to toe with a dyed in the wool, convince me otherwise, Windows user?

Honestly, Apple does not have a monopoly on loyal to the death computer users. In fact, to convince the other 95% percent of the computer using world maybe the job requirements should read: "Must have read the collective literary works of Steve Jobs and Guy Kawasaki with a little John Sculley and Steve Wozniak thrown in for balance."

IMHO, education of future Apple Retail Sales employees starts with the available software packages under the Mac OS and continues into the possibilities of Virtual PC / Virtual Windows.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of PC users out there who are surprised to find that Microsoft Office exists for the Macintosh.

And most, if not all PC users out there do not realize that there is such a thing as Virtual PC / Virtual Windows.
If a potential Apple employee does not know what software packages are developed for Mac OS and what Windows based software packages run adequately under Virtual Windows, then that employee is not worth having.

    You want a really crazy..

idea? How about a logo on the box of every Macintosh computer saying "Microsoft - Looking towards the future".

Dell and Compaq have realized their gains from a second hand marketing slogan - "Intel Inside".

What if Apple were to turn the tables and arrange an exclusive partnership with Microsoft in exchange for the "On the Box" label?

Sound too far fetched? Maybe it will always be that way as long as Apple continues to develop Apple Works.

Simple scenario: Apple abandons Apple Works, Microsoft abandons Microsoft Works, Apple and Microsoft Co-Develop the next Office Suite, Apple gets the best of the Microsoft software development, Microsoft gets their name on the outside of the box.

    no way

Keep the MS logo off the Mac boxes. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't offer any "proof of quality". Besides, the Apple packaging is superb! I've kept the box of every Mac I own!

    Microsoft

Microsoft has been improving its products for years. Internet Explorer is far better than Netscape Communicator (except for a few compatibility problems I have recently encountered) but I'd rather use IE today. Windows is non longer the awful thing it was. Windows 3.1 sucked alright. But Windows 2000 or Xp are very good products. OS X is far behind in terms of professional usability. There's no way I could use it today at work. And Apple products prices are too steep for most buyers. Even I, a long-time die-hard Mac user, think about leaving my favorite platform because of its price... Affordable G4 towers with PCI slots are what some of us need !

    Apple Store in Canada?

I checked out the listings for the jobs. These would be great jobs to be had. Up here in Canada, there is now Apple Store per se, but there's been rumors of one in the Eaton Centre. Before the grouches come out of the woodwork, anybody's thoughts, rumours etc on this?
