MicroTech updates Zio! SmartMedia drivers

updated 01:30 pm EST, Tue February 19, 2002

Dave Johnson writes "Just got notice that MicroTech has updated the drivers for the Zio! SmartMedia reader to work with Mac OS 10.1.2. The original Mac OS X drivers worked with 10.1 & 10.1.1 but ceased to work with 10.1.2. The new version should fix this." [tech support document]

    Old version on d/l page

The version on the downloads page appears to be the old one (the ReadMe file is dated Dec. 5, 2001). The new one (dated Feb. 11, 2002) is currently only attached to a couple of knowledge base articles. One of those articles is here

    Possible solution

There's a discussion going on over at Version Tracker in the User Reviews for the Microtech updates (see here) identifying two possible solutions:

    1. A few people have reported that the old driver -- the one that didn't work with OS X 10.1.2 -- now works with 10.1.3 and all you may have to do is replace the new driver with the old one.

    2. Another person claims that removing one of the two kernel extensions associated with the new driver will fix the problem.
