Eric Schneck has unveiled an iTunes plug-in for the Apple Newton. The software package allows users to copy music to the Newton via the built-in serial port on older Macs or via Ethernet. The plug-in works with MAD Newton by Eckhart Köppen. [updated]

    1ST POST AGAIN!!! YEAH.

If the 5GB toshiba drive in the PC card carrier is compatible with newton, or someone could write a driver, NEwton users could have the iPod everyone originally wanted. well almost.

    Newton...

I used to own a Newton. It was completely useable until I realized how nice it was to synchronize. The framework for synchronization is so poor on the Newton. I owned the MessagePad 2000 and even though it offered an IrDA selection for sync'ing, it did absolutely NOTHING. Come to find out Apple had it in the NewtonOS code, but never finished writing it into the Newton Connection Kit/Utility, whatever they called it.

It was a powerful PDA...without Apple behind it, it's just a big paperweight as far as i'm concerned.

    It works

The MP3 player and iTunes plug-in are actually very cool. The MP3 player can even play MP3 streams and so can act as a sort of portable internet radio.

Even over Ethernet, transfering MP3 files to my MP2100 is quite slow but it does work. Even though the playback is mono (AFAIK, no Newton models have stereo sound hardware), the results are good enough to be able to enjoy the music!
