AOL blocks users from forwarding accounts

Bill Ryan notes that AOL has changed its policy on automatic email forwarding from its mail servers: "I have been having trouble here at work with our e-mail. Well after battling for 3 weeks with our mail host, Interland, I was informed that AOL has recently changed their Mail relay service so you can no longer forward to AOL accounts from thier mail server. There is no bounce message, or undeliverable mail message, the mail just seems to disappear."

    Sad

The saddest part is that this won't even make a small dent in AOL's business because no one cares, no one notices, and they're too big to take on.

Just like M$. Which is why we should all encourage AOL and M$ to fight each other as much as possible, and then go in and kick them when they've exhausted themselves. :-)

    Good!!!

I am not sure how this all works. But someone on Interland's service has been spamming AOL accounts with my e-mail as the return address. I have over 6,000 bounce backs because part of their spam is going to non-exsisting AOL accounts. Plus numerous hate mail from AOL e-mail people because this spam contained adult ads. I have complain to AOL and Interland, sent them numerous examples of the e-mail header and have had several experts check into this. No one was able to help me. Whoever was sending out the spam was jacking with the headers. The only thing trackable was it was going to AOL accounts and someone on Interland's service was sending it it.

So I am not sure that this new story is about, but if it stops the spaming with my e-mail as the sender's e-mail, then I am glad.

    Huh?

This doesn't make any sense to me. Who can't forward what using whose mail server?

    so what

So, some a******* On Line can't get their email. Who cares? We'd all be better off if they just dropped ALL traffic from the internet, instead of just mail. There are plenty of good dialup ISPs. Switch!

    my problem is similar

... if not the same, but the original item is a bit confusing. We're unable to send messages to AOL recipients at all: the messages don't bounce back, simply disappear into a black hole. Our email server has no errors in the log. I've been in touch with both AOL and my ISP and they've been unhelpful to say the least; I suspect it's a DNS problem but AOL says to check the reverse DNS and the ISP says there's no DNS problems. So what do I do??!

    Thanks,
    Noam
