A public school educator writes about "How schools are tricked into using PCs--when Macs are better," saying that "Along with the false economy with Windows, I also can't find any real academic reason to go with the platform."

    WOW!

Newsflash: MS is a monopoly, their OS resembles nothing so much as a Swiss cheese (can you say "security"?), and Gates is a lying sack of fecal matter.

    Film at 11pm.

    hmm...

I happened to have a gander at a few "feedback' posts at that page (the link is at the end of the article)... as you might suspect, there are more than a few windozers that have posted pure nonsense... at least the ones i read were idiotic and flamebait.

    no surprise.

    The Article...

...describes perfectly how I felt when I was in charge of 5 buildings of Macs on Campus (300 Computers) I was able to do all the tech support by myself as I watched the department hire 3 MS Windows Certified techs to handle 3 labs (50 Computers) and they ended up having fewer computers running than I did.

As far as the postings I've read afterwards, I am hoping no one seriously is listening to them. I keep hearing from them that they need to teach what is in the real world. Well, a 7th grader does not need to know how to run calculations in Excel, especially since that version will not be in use by the time that 7th grader is in the "real world"

But more importantly, Schools are not using computers to teach computers in the school, they are using computers to teach Science and Math, and other creative things like video production. No school I've ever seen will buy a lab full of Microsoft Office just to teach Word, and Excel. Mostly because bying that many copies of Office would bankrupt the school district.

These parents of these children who are so concerned about them getting jobs in the "real world" need to give their kids a little more credit, simply having computer skills in general will be plenty, people can adapt you know. I've used a Mac since I was 8 and a PC since I was 12, the general workings of both are the same, and I can quickly adapt to whichever I am using at the time. It Isn't difficult.

Well, anyway, I am in the "real world" and guess what, I use a Mac, I maintain the entire office too, and still have time left over to practice Architecture, yes, we have seen the numbers in the long run, and Apple is a less expensive way to go, they last a long time and cost less man hours to maintain.
And I have found this to be true for the past 10 years, and it hasn't changed.

    Great article,

now let's just hope many educators and other school officials have a chance to read it.

It's a fact that people are still running, and being productive, on Mac Classics, Mac SEs, and I've even heard stories of people using Apple IIe's for office tasks. And it just keeps getting better. Mac OS X is the perfect OS for education. It's so easy, yet you learn from it. And it's stable, and powerful when it comes to networking, but yet not complicated. I bet you could teach an 8 year old how to set up Mac OS X Server if they had some basic knoweldge of the internet and networking.

Articles like this from educators are very important. let's hope Apple spotlights it and educators read it.

And one last point. Would you encourage your child to buy a used car from a convicted criminal? Well, why would you want them to use Windows, the OS by the Monopoly people(tm) ?

    music

I was taught music theory, ear training and MIDI on black and white Mac classics with the external 10 mb hard drives. Those things could handle all kinds of controllers and data streams. Pulses Per Quarter Note in the sequencers often determines what they can handle, not the hardware.

The university got the computers in their lab for free from users who upgraded to newer Macs. They were there for 3 years before I studied and remained for 3 more while I was there.

This was not the experience of a neighboor college who were all PCs. They drained their budgets each year.
